FALL '26 COACHES

COACHING THE GAME & SHAPING THE FUTURE

GYB coaches are carefully selected, qualified volunteers with real basketball experience who give their time because they genuinely care about developing and supporting young girls. Every coach completes a background check and seasonal training, with one shared purpose: creating a safe, positive environment where every player can grow, gain confidence, and love the game.

COACH ATIYA

My coaching journey began during my first year of law school when I had the opportunity to lead an 8-9-year-old co-ed team. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to coach multiple seasons with GYB, where I share my passion for the game and help young athletes develop their skills. Although I stopped playing competitively in ninth grade due to a medical condition, basketball has remained a significant part of my life. I continue to play recreationally in the HERoes league, which keeps me connected to the sport I love. Coaching allows me to introduce kids to basketball in a fun and engaging way, while also teaching them fundamental skills. More than anything, I want my players to see basketball as a game to enjoy, not just something to master. Fun fact: I was in the movie Love & Basketball! ❤️🏀😬

COACH BRENNA

Coach Brenna brings a deep passion for basketball and a dedication to developing young athletes. While relatively new to coaching as an adult, this marks her second full season. Her love for the game began long before coaching, as she actively participated in running camps and mentoring upcoming players in her community. Brenna grew up playing basketball, starting in fourth grade and continuing through high school. From fifth grade, she competed on a traveling club team across the U.S. and played varsity all four years of high school. Although a torn ACL in her junior year impacted her collegiate aspirations, her basketball journey shaped her into the coach and mentor she is today. Brenna loves coaching because it offers the opportunity to teach life lessons through support, confidence-building, and community. She is passionate about helping young girls discover who they are, develop their skills, and thrive in an environment where they are encouraged to be themselves.

COACH CARLY

I was born and raised in Las Vegas, and basketball has been a part of my life since the 3rd grade. My dad coached my teams up until high school, where I had the honor of playing Varsity basketball all four years. Being part of a team and working toward a common goal has always brought me immense joy, and basketball has taught me discipline, perseverance, and valuable life lessons that extend beyond the court. To stay connected with the game, I played in college recreational leagues and coached two elementary boys' teams during that time. I’ve also had the privilege of coaching my adult daughters in their recreational leagues here in Henderson. For the past three seasons, I’ve been coaching with GYB, and I continue to play in a women’s league to stay actively involved in the sport. It's been incredibly rewarding to coach my youngest daughter and witness young girls discover and develop a love for the game of basketball each season. I'm excited for another season of coaching and helping these players grow both on and off the court.

Their coaching approach focuses on making basketball fun, competitive, and enjoyable while teaching players the value of effort, attitude, and character. Coach believes in leading by example, communicating openly with families, and helping each athlete understand how hard work and development can lead to greater opportunities on the court. Most importantly, Coach is excited to give back to the community and help young players experience the support and connection of a positive basketball environment.

COACH CORISSA

With over a decade of coaching experience, ranging from elementary to college basketball at Chadron State University, I have dedicated my career to developing young athletes, with a particular focus on coaching girls and women to reach the highest levels of competition. Basketball has been a lifelong passion of mine starting in youth leagues, becoming Wyoming’s leading high school rebounder, and continuing my playing career at Chadron State University. My coaching philosophy is centered around inspiring, challenging, and supporting the next generation of great players, helping them reach their full potential. Now in my fourth season with GYB, I am excited to see what these talented girls will accomplish next and look forward to another rewarding season!

COACH CURTIS

I have been passionate about basketball from a very young age, earning a spot on my high school varsity team as a freshman and helping them reach the City Championship Finals. My solid foundation in the fundamentals of the game propelled me to play at the collegiate level. Unfortunately, an early knee surgery interrupted my dream of pursuing professional basketball, but my love for the game never faded. I transitioned into coaching, starting with the Boys and Girls Club, where my team won back-to-back championships in my first two seasons, sparking a new passion for coaching. When both of my daughters decided to play basketball, I became dedicated to coaching their youth team, finding immense joy in helping young players develop their skills. In my first season with GYB, I witnessed remarkable growth in the girls’ abilities, both individually and as a team. Their competitive spirit and teamwork were truly inspiring. I believe strongly in the GYB program and its positive impact on young athletes. As I look forward to another season, I am excited to continue guiding and mentoring the next generation of basketball players. Let’s go GYB!

COACH DELON

DeLon began his coaching journey seven years ago with CB Bescano in Spain and has since led numerous player development clinics focused on skill growth and fundamentals. With playing experience at the high school, AAU, collegiate, and professional levels, DeLon brings a wealth of knowledge to the program. A strong believer in the power of mentorship, he loves coaching for those “aha” moments when a player finally masters a move or concept. His philosophy centers on creating a positive environment where kids can grow as athletes and as individuals, knowing that one kid in the gym is one less kid on the street or glued to a tablet.

Fun Fact: A huge foodie, DeLon is also an avid (but admittedly bad) golfer and enjoys a good stand-up comedy show.

COACH DEREK

With over 20 years of coaching experience in girls' basketball at various levels, from grade school to varsity, I have truly enjoyed every moment of helping young athletes develop their skills and love for the game. My basketball journey has spanned many years, playing at different levels, and as I continue to grow older, I've shifted more toward coaching while scaling back on playing. I can't imagine anything more rewarding than being a coach, it's a privilege to inspire young players, guide them to pursue their goals, and help them reach their full potential both on and off the court. Above all, I aim to make every practice fun and rewarding, allowing players to enjoy this amazing sport while learning valuable life lessons along the way.

COACH JEREMY

With one year of coaching experience with 11-12 year old boys, I’m excited to begin my first season coaching girls. My passion for coaching was reignited when my daughter expressed an interest in playing basketball, and I’m eager to share my love for the game with these young athletes. I’ve been passionate about basketball since I was 5 years old, and my experience as a high school All-Star point guard, where my team was ranked 5th in the county, has shaped my coaching philosophy. I also played one year of college basketball and have always been driven by my work ethic. Standing at just 5’7”, I was able to use my athleticism to perform impressive dunks, even winning a few dunk contests with windmill tricks despite being one of the shortest players to ever dunk. I’m excited to bring my knowledge, dedication, and enthusiasm to these girls and give back to the community by helping them develop as players and individuals.
