OUR COACHES

All GYB coaches are dedicated volunteers with strong basketball backgrounds, including high school, college, or professional experience. Many actively play in the Women's Basketball League, serving as great role models. Each coach undergoes a background check and attends our mandatory clinic every season. Their top priority is the safety and development of the girls, and their motivation comes from a genuine commitment to the players they coach.

COACH BRENNA

Team: FEVER

Coach Brenna brings a deep passion for basketball and a dedication to developing young athletes. While relatively new to coaching as an adult, this marks her second full season. Her love for the game began long before coaching, as she actively participated in running camps and mentoring upcoming players in her community. Brenna grew up playing basketball, starting in fourth grade and continuing through high school. From fifth grade, she competed on a traveling club team across the U.S. and played varsity all four years of high school. Although a torn ACL in her junior year impacted her collegiate aspirations, her basketball journey shaped her into the coach and mentor she is today. Brenna loves coaching because it offers the opportunity to teach life lessons through support, confidence-building, and community. She is passionate about helping young girls discover who they are, develop their skills, and thrive in an environment where they are encouraged to be themselves.

COACH CARLY

Team: FIRE

I was born and raised in Las Vegas, and basketball has been a part of my life since the 3rd grade. My dad coached my teams up until high school, where I had the honor of playing Varsity basketball all four years. Being part of a team and working toward a common goal has always brought me immense joy, and basketball has taught me discipline, perseverance, and valuable life lessons that extend beyond the court. To stay connected with the game, I played in college recreational leagues and coached two elementary boys' teams during that time. I’ve also had the privilege of coaching my adult daughters in their recreational leagues here in Henderson. For the past three seasons, I’ve been coaching with GYB, and I continue to play in a women’s league to stay actively involved in the sport. It's been incredibly rewarding to coach my youngest daughter and witness young girls discover and develop a love for the game of basketball each season. I'm excited for another season of coaching and helping these players grow both on and off the court.

COACH CURTIS

Team: SUN

I have been passionate about basketball from a very young age, earning a spot on my high school varsity team as a freshman and helping them reach the City Championship Finals. My solid foundation in the fundamentals of the game propelled me to play at the collegiate level. Unfortunately, an early knee surgery interrupted my dream of pursuing professional basketball, but my love for the game never faded. I transitioned into coaching, starting with the Boys and Girls Club, where my team won back-to-back championships in my first two seasons, sparking a new passion for coaching. When both of my daughters decided to play basketball, I became dedicated to coaching their youth team, finding immense joy in helping young players develop their skills. In my first season with GYB, I witnessed remarkable growth in the girls’ abilities, both individually and as a team. Their competitive spirit and teamwork were truly inspiring. I believe strongly in the GYB program and its positive impact on young athletes. As I look forward to another season, I am excited to continue guiding and mentoring the next generation of basketball players. Let’s go GYB!

COACH DAVID

Team: SKY

I have been passionate about basketball since I first picked up a ball at the age of 7, playing in various recreational leagues and continuing through high school. While my coaching experience began in 2017 with middle school girls' travel basketball, my love for the game and desire to coach has always been a driving force in my life. As a player, I quickly learned the profound impact a great coach can have, not only on a player's athletic development but also in shaping their character and life skills. This is why coaching is so meaningful to me. I aim to bring both knowledge and enjoyment to practices while instilling values that will help my players succeed both on and off the court. Outside of basketball, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and my dog Remi, listening to metal music, and am a die-hard fan of the Dodgers and Lakers. I’m excited to help young athletes grow and thrive this season, both as players and as individuals.

A strong believer in the power of mentorship, he loves coaching for those “aha” moments when a player finally masters a move or concept. His philosophy centers on creating a positive environment where kids can grow as athletes and as individuals, knowing that one kid in the gym is one less kid on the street or glued to a tablet.

Fun Fact: A huge foodie, DeLon is also an avid (but admittedly bad) golfer and enjoys a good stand-up comedy show.

COACH JEREMY

Team: STORM

With one year of coaching experience with 11-12 year old boys, I’m excited to begin my first season coaching girls. My passion for coaching was reignited when my daughter expressed an interest in playing basketball, and I’m eager to share my love for the game with these young athletes. I’ve been passionate about basketball since I was 5 years old, and my experience as a high school All-Star point guard, where my team was ranked 5th in the county, has shaped my coaching philosophy. I also played one year of college basketball and have always been driven by my work ethic. Standing at just 5’7”, I was able to use my athleticism to perform impressive dunks, even winning a few dunk contests with windmill tricks despite being one of the shortest players to ever dunk. I’m excited to bring my knowledge, dedication, and enthusiasm to these girls and give back to the community by helping them develop as players and individuals.

COACH KEVANEY

Team: COMETS

Hello! My name is Kevaney Martin, and basketball has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember. I earned a full scholarship to play Division I basketball at Monmouth University. Unfortunately, I endured six major knee injuries (including three acl tears) during my four-year college career, which led me to realize that pursuing a professional playing career was not feasible. Instead, I embraced a career in sports broadcasting, working as a sports anchor, reporter, color analyst, and sideline reporter. My journey has taken me all over the country including stops at: Midco Sports Net, NBC Sports California (Cal-Hi Sports Bay Area), CBS Sports Network, the FOX affiliate in Virginia, and CBS Las Vegas, where I've covered a variety of major sports and events, with a particular focus on basketball, including the NBA, WNBA, and both men's and women's college hoops. Currently, I serve as a color analyst for Women's NCAA DI basketball, covering the UNLV Lady Rebels as well as the Mountain West, Big West, ACC, and PAC-12 conferences. Additionally, I am a professor at UNLV, overseeing the sports broadcasting department (specifically the Emmy Award-winning weekly sports show, the Rebel Report, and Rebel Sports Net). I am incredibly excited to translate my experiences in playing and covering basketball into coaching. This sport has given me so much, and I look forward to sharing my knowledge and passion with these amazing young athletes, playing a small role in their basketball journeys.

Coach Kierra brings a lifelong passion for basketball and a commitment to developing young athletes both on and off the court. As a former high school athlete, she understands firsthand the discipline, teamwork, and resilience the sport demands and she brings that same mindset to her coaching. Although an injury prevented her from playing at the collegiate level, her love for the game led her to pursue coaching, allowing her to share her knowledge, experience, and passion with the next generation of players. Fresh out of high school, Coach Kierra began her coaching journey as a volunteer for her alma mater’s JV team. She later joined James Dew’s Elite AAU program, coaching 7th- and 8th-grade players. During her three-year tenure, she helped guide her team to a Dayton Run N Jump Gold Division Championship and a runner-up finish at the Battle of the Boards tournament.

Coach Kierra’s coaching philosophy focuses on developing not only athletes’ skills but also their confidence, character, and love for the game. She thrives on watching young players grow, achieve their goals, and gain a deeper understanding of teamwork and perseverance. One fun fact about me, elementary/middle school Kierra was CONVINCED that I would be the first woman in the WNBA. So much so, that at 11 I wrote a letter begging David Stern to come watch me play to convince him I was worthy. (He never showed up) lol

Basketball has been a lifelong passion of mine, not only for the competition and skill it requires but also for the camaraderie and teamwork it builds. Growing up, I was inspired by watching my dad compete in men’s leagues, which fueled my own love for the game. I started playing organized basketball in 4th grade, an exception at my school, where the league was typically for 5th grade and above and continued playing through club teams and high school, earning a varsity spot as a freshman. In college, I played recreationally for fun while continuing to stay connected to the sport. My coaching experience includes working with GYB’s 5th and 6th graders, where I have had the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for the game. COACH MICHAEL

Team: SPARKS

My coaching journey began over 20 years ago when I first started helping my brother Charles with the Lights program. Even as a player, I was drawn to teaching the game assisting with teams during times when I was sidelined by injuries and staying involved any way I could. I began playing basketball in elementary school and continued competing through college, with one year of collegiate experience. After college, I stayed active in the game and played on competitive teams here in Las Vegas, most recently as of last year. Coaching has allowed me to give back by teaching kids the fundamentals of basketball and instilling a love for the game. Watching both boys and girls compete, improve, and truly enjoy themselves on the court is one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do.
